5 Home Office Setup Tips for Remote Work

The environment that’s surrounding us has an impact not only on our mood but also on the way we work and communicate with others. With that said, the way you set up your workspace can greatly affect your success while working remotely. It is crucial to set up a home office that will motivate you and drive you toward success every day. Here are five tips on how you can create your own productivity space within a reasonable budget.

#1 Dedicate an Area to Work Only

While working from home, it is easy to get too relaxed and start getting things done on your couch or even your bed. While this might sound great, hurts focus and productivity since these areas are designed for relaxation and not work. Instead of struggling to focus in areas that are meant to relax you, set up a dedicated work area where you will be productive for a few hours every day.

#2 Clear the Clutter

Studies have proven that clutter prevents us from focusing on work and staying productive. As they say, a clutter-free desk means a clutter-free mind. Before you start working from home, clear out your office space and leave only the essential items you need. In this case, the less is more strategy will work best.

#3 Remove Distractions

If you don’t have a separate office room in the house, chances are you will set up a desk in the living room or your bedroom. This means you will most likely be close to the TV or other distractions. To get the most out of your time working at home, remove all distractions and set up your desk so it faces away the TV or other entertainment devices.

#4 Let in Some Natural Light

A well-lit space will not only help you focus but also prevent unwanted headaches and eye strain.  Natural lighting is always the best choice so make sure to set up your home office near a window. If you don’t have a lot of natural light available, use white LED lightbulbs as the best alternative.

#5 Use a Standing Desk

Last but not least, consider investing in a standing desk to boost focus and productivity. Sitting in a chair for a long period will make it difficult to maintain focus and it can cause severe back pain. Switching between sitting and standing will help you get the blood flowing while working for several hours. To be able to switch between these two positions, look for a durable motorized standing desk for easy adjustment.

Don’t Forget About Security

Setting up a home office the right way can make a significant difference in your work experience. However, don’t forget to set up the digital side of your workspace as well, that is, prepare your devices for remote work and set up the right security measures. Encrypt all data and devices to add an extra layer of protection along with other strategies such as two factor authentication and VPNs.
