4 Enterprise-grade Document Sharing and Access Tools For Your Business

Last week, we gave you some food for thought. BYOD is a reality waiting to emerge and employees seek ways to access data (including files, documents, proprietary data, etc.). If businesses don’t provide enterprise-controlled, cloud-based document access, sharing, and collaboration tools users will then seek consumer-based, individual-type cloud-based services, which are pretty much available today for almost no cloud. That opens the door to a can of worms since it’ll be virtually impossible for businesses to control this sort of open data access, collaboration, and sharing.

For that reason, here are at least 4 enterprise-grade tools and services that businesses can consider for controlled data access and document sharing:

Group Logic

Do you need to connect, collaborate, share, and communicate in a collaborative and secure environment? Do you foresee a need for allowing users to access files and collaborate on a mobile device? Group Logic offers MobilEcho – a secure mobile file management solution, which allows users to access, browse, cache, preview, and search for files on secure corporate file servers. It also allows for encryption during data transfer, selective remote swipe (for lost, stolen, or compromised devices). MobileEcho also provides businesses the ability to whitelist or blacklist third-party apps using which documents can be accessed or opened. Another product from the same company is activEcho that allows mobile users to share, collaborate, and sync files between any two mobile devices.

Copiun

Copiun is a leading provider of mobile content access and collaboration solutions and with the recent BYOD trend; it capitalized while gaining momentum on its offerings for mobile content access for enterprises. TrustedShare – Copiun’s solution for enterprises to allow collaboration for mobile workers – allows the usual features with native access to back-end document stores without having to use VPN. It also allows the ability to control application usage on any mobile device.

Accellion

Accellion was founded in the year 1999 and is a provider for enterprise-friendly file sharing and collaboration solutions. The company already enjoys a user base of more than 9 million individual users and 1500 enterprise clients. Accellion provides secure document delivery, content control from a centralized application, and it offers choices for enterprises to use its on-premise or cloud-based variations. For advanced users, it also offers APIs to plug-in to SharePoint and other data stores. It provides security using SSL + HTTPS, FIPS 14-=2 certification for encryption, and allows for restricted third-party apps usage.

Iongrid

There’s no denying that the iPad is an iconic device – the kind of device that will find itself in the hands of millions of people or will stimulate demand for such devices (which explains the stupendous level of competition we now see Apple facing from Amazon, Google, and Samsung). Iongrid Nexus offers secure access to enterprise content on the iPad using the proprietary Nexus server that sits behind an on-premise firewall offering SSL connectivity between the corporate network and the device in question. While we are on the topic, there’s a free version called Nexus Connect for small businesses.

The need for solutions that offer content access and control on mobile devices is real. While it’s true that every business will have different requirements, each of these solutions (and more) can be customized.

What are your top choices for enterprise-grade content sharing, access, and control solutions for your business? Please do share it with us. We’d love to hear from you.
