Are we talking about dedicated, IT networking related applications developed specifically for the iPhone? Of course, don’t you remember? “There’s an app for that”. Networking is a crucial aspect of IT management and it’s not a surprise that there are some handy iPhone apps for networking. Let’s see at least five of those IT related iPhone apps:

SNAP (Simple Network Area Prober)

If you were out somewhere else, and not in your office building where your actual network is, would you like it if you could locate active devices on your network? SNAP (Simple Network Area Provider) is an iPhone app by 9bitlabs.com that gives you just that. It can display devices on your network (be it Mac or Windows). For every device, it also scans for remote login possibilities, HTTP protocols, Microsoft Networking, etc. You may do an auto-sweep of your local network, identify devices, port-scan devices with a single touch, and much more.

Cisco’s SIO

Cisco, in its program, which takes a broad look at the global threats and security issues, contracted Zeek Interactive to build an iPhone application. The Cisco SIO iPhone app helps network managers, administrators, and other users to monitor security and to keep the network safe. The app sends out alerts, intelligence warnings, and allows you to check reputation of an e-mail or a website address.

Network Ping

Network Ping ports ping tests such as Pinging, Pinging subnets, Telnet, or Traceroutes straight to your iPhone. It’s a test tool that helps you do remote debugging, monitor networks (LAN), and maintain your network.
While it’s touted to be better than Network Utility Pro (see below), we’ll leave it you to decide what works best for you.

Network Utility Pro

Have you often wondered what you could get for a dollar Apparently, you get a lot. If you are on the road or if you are away from your computer that you’ve come to depend so much on, you might still want to check your website server status, for instance. Network Utility (Connectivity Checker) gives you a terminal-like access, right off your iPhone. Using Network Utility Connectivity Checker, you can scan TCP/IP, Ping (ICMP Echo), lookup GeoIP, use geo-targeting with Google Maps, conduct Whois Query, and collect IP address information.

That’s a lot for a dollar, isn’t it?
